Crossing through the doorway

Dance often can express things that words can’t. It is still, almost twelve years later, hard to put into words the feelings surrounding 9/11. I have tried to write about it and failed. But Julia Adam in Crossing  has found a way to express the raw mixture of emotions brought about by this event. Today the dancers (Dylan G-Bowley, Marcelino Herrera Juarez, and Travis Bradley pictured here) rehearsed using the doorway on wheels I mentioned in a previous post. The stringed music that guides the dance is gorgeous and haunting, now joyful then dissonant, a piece commissioned especially for this work.

This doorway is a crossing to the other side, a crossing to hope, a crossing to joy. Something I can't even express.
